Beware Netizens! Facebook can Track you Anywhere
Social media is such a vast ecosystem that you can’t escape easily. You can’t escape Facebook. Sooner or later you have to join it as all your friends and relatives are on it. This is what the truth is at least for now. The social media giant can now track anyone across the world with its so-called targeted ads.
In the latest development, Facebook has taken the step that translates to its global domination of social media landscape. Previously the targeted ads were meant for Facebook users only. With the new expansion strategy in place, the organization has decided to catch up with the non-users.
Therefore, if you have an account on Facebook or not, you will be shown targeted ads once you visit the website. And for this purpose, the social media organization will use third-party cookies and ‘Like’ buttons.
Well, that’s a very clever move on part of Facebook, as it surely is deemed an attempt towards users privacy breach. With stringent privacy laws prevailing in the EU, will Facebook be able to successfully comply with these provisions, or will it meet the same fate as Google?
It is interesting to note that Google is engaged in a legal battle with the EU privacy stalwarts, and only last week, the search engine giant had filed an appeal against the ruling of the French privacy watchdog, in connection with the privacy law.
According to Facebook’s announcement yesterday, this step was taken in order to comply with the demands and provisions of the European Union privacy laws.
It is interesting to note that with this move, Facebook has followed in the footsteps of Google Adwords. Remember that Google Adwords uses similar tactic to gauge user experience and behavior over the internet. It seems that Facebook wants to dominate online advertising industry as well. With the expansion of Ad Audience in sight, the company deems this step as a move in the right direction.
Facebook intends to make money through its own ad network while using users’ data. It is a practice that the company has long followed. Only last year, the company gained a revenue up to the amount of $5 billion through this practice.
If you don’t want to be tracked by Facebook, just tweak your Facebook settings. But the question remains that how an individual’s privacy will be affected while using Facebook?
