How to Delete Telegram Account Permanently? by Scott O'Connor/ September 20, 2019/ 1296 Views Telegram is one of the very secure messaging apps that comes with end-to-end encryption, making it possible for users to keep their communications secure from unwanted eyes. Seeing how more people are turning to secure messaging solutions, competition has increased by leaps and bounds. Whether you have had your fill with Telegram, or have found a better app that fits you description, it is best that you delete your account on Telegram for good. It is of course, the logical thing to do. If you are having a hard time deactivating your Telegram account, and are not sure what needs to be done, then you are at the right place. How to Delete Telegram Permanently? If you decide to deactivate Telegram, there will be no going back. Before you go ahead, here are a couple of things to take into consideration: Once you deactivate your account, you will lost your channels, groups, messages, contact lists completely. You can go back to using the same account again. Any backups you have made cannot be restored even if you sign up with Telegram all over again later on. Once you are sure you want to delete Telegram, you have two methods to opt for. It is important to note you cannot deactivate your Telegram account right away. This is because you will need to access a dedicated page and take the necessary steps within the app itself. If not for this method, there is another way which requires minimal effort, but the process is longer. How to Manually Delete Telegram Account? Visit the Telegram Deactivation Page on your web browser. Enter the phone number you provided to sign up with Telegram. Click Next. You will receive a message in your Telegram app with a confirmation code. Return to the Deactivation Page on your browser, enter the confirmation code in the appropriate field. Click Sign In. You will be asked for a reason why you are leaving Telegram. Since this is optional, you can leave the field blank. Click Done. Confirm that you want to get rid of your account. Click Yes. Adjust Account Self-Destruction Telegram accounts have a unique security feature that cause the termination of an account after a certain time of inactivity. The default period is 6 months, which means if you do not use the app for this amount of time, your account, and everything in it, will be removed for good. The feature cannot be disabled, but you can adjust the time to delete your account anywhere between 1 to 12 months. With this feature, your account can be set to self-destruct after a month or more, whichever you prefer. All you will need to do then is not to use Telegram. It is that simple! To adjust account self-destruction, follow these steps: In the Telegram app, select Settings > Privacy & Security. Under Delete My Account, select If Away For. Now select the duration for your account to self-destruct. How to Backup Telegram Data? If you want to keep a backup of your Telegram data i.e. photos, chats and other media, then you will need to download the latest version of Telegram Desktop. To export your data: In Telegram Desktop, select Settings. Select Export Telegram Data > Export Chat History. Choose the type of data you want to export. You can now view your Telegram data offline whenever you want. If the primary reason for you deleting your Telegram account is to ensure your online privacy remains intact, then you are far better off using a VPN, like Ivacy VPN. With Ivacy VPN, when connected to a VPN server, your internet traffic is encrypted. Not only is it not visible, because you have a new IP address, but there is no way it can be decrypted.
