Adidas Hacked of Millions of Consumers’ Data
Adidas, one of the largest sportswear manufacturer, came clean about hackers targeting its U.S. website. Unfortunately, millions of consumers’ personal data was stolen.
For now, Adidas has assured everyone, especially its loyal consumers, that they are investigating the matter. However, limited details have been released about the hack.
Adidas Hacked – What Information was Stolen?
What has been revealed is that “an unauthorized party” breached Adidas’ server; managing to steal contact details, usernames, and encrypted passwords. Only “a few million consumers” were apparently affected.
Adidas hacked off a few million consumers’ worth of data, claimed that credit card and health-related information was not compromised.
In a statement, the sportswear manufacturer stated, “Adidas is committed to the privacy and security of its consumers’ personal data. Adidas immediately began taking steps to determine the scope of the issue and to alert relevant consumers. Adidas is working with leading data security firms and law enforcement authorities to investigate the issue.”
Does Adidas take Cybersecurity Seriously?
It will be interesting to see how Adidas deals with the problem at hand. The good news is that since health and credit card information was not stolen, and also since passwords were encrypted, at least Adidas takes cybersecurity seriously, which cannot necessarily be said about other major corporations.
Adidas Hacked Takeaway for Businesses and Consumers
Seeing how cybersecurity is a necessity, rather than a luxury these days, it is imperative for businesses to take charge to prevent breaches from taking place. At the same time, existing security protocols need to be upgraded regularly, while VPNs should be adopted for dedicated IPs and numerous other features; to stay ahead of the curve of course, especially since best practices just won’t cut it anymore.
On the other hand, consumers should be wary about protecting their information. Important or not, consumers need to pay close attention to password management if they want to stay safe that is. For now, consumers must utilize password managers, and even VPNs to stay secure and anonymous online, at least until a far more effective solution can be found.
