Had a fascinating conversation with The Royal Ballet's Steven McRae who broke his Achilles tendon on stage in 2019 and has made a documentary about his gruelling recovery. https://t.co/CFXd48ru57

How are the critics reviewing Steven McRae: Dancing Back to the Light?
Performing as Romeo for the first time with The Royal Ballet in 2007 was one of my greatest moments. Every time I stepped onto the Royal Opera House stage, it felt surreal—an incredible experience I had enjoyed since joining the company in 2004.
Then, in October 2019, everything changed. In front of 2,250 people, I jumped—and suddenly, my Achilles tendon snapped.
I crashed to the floor, overwhelmed by pain, confusion, and embarrassment. In that moment, my entire career flashed before my eyes. Years of dedication, hard work, and sacrifice were suddenly at risk. As people rushed around me, I felt frozen in time. How would I recover? How would I continue to support my three young children? Lying there, panic, fear, and anger took over as I stared at the torn tendon that could end everything.
