Video Streaming Website Putlocker Blocked in UK

Putlocker

Putlocker, one of the biggest video streaming websites is blocked in the United Kingdom (UK). The Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the UK have confirmed blocking the website, under the influence of court order.

The British internet users have reported their concerns about Putlocker blockade and said that the website was not accessible in recent days. Putlocker offers a huge collection of TV shows, movies, documentaries, and dramas.

This blockade has come only after the Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) moved the court for banning websites that promote illegal downloading of movies.

MPAA holds the point of view that the blocked websites, including Putlocker were involved in copyright breach of its members, by uploading movies without prior permission. All the major UK ISPs including Sky and Virgin Media have obliged to comply with MPAA’s provisions for copyright infringement, and forbid their users to access the blocked websites. It is interesting to note that other video streaming websites have also been affected along with Putlocker.

According to a statement released by Virgin Media, “the company writes: “Virgin Media prides itself on being a responsible ISP and will block websites when ordered to do so by the courts.

Most of the Putlocker users took to twitter, the social media website, to show their resentment over the website’s blockage.

The users were unable to access the latest episodes of Game of Thrones Season 6 due to the same reason.

But there are a large number of internet users who don’t pay the heed to the so called court orders. They tend to use VPN connections to go against the court order, to access any of their favorite programs over the web.

As the netizens in the UK are furious over the Putlocker blockade, the MPAA stands firm and holds the point of view, “Court orders are used to target illegal websites whose sole purpose is to make money off the back of other’s people content while paying nothing back to the legitimate economy. We want an Internet that works for everyone, where the creative property of artists and creators is protected along with the privacy and security of all users.”

“The internet must be a place for investment, innovation and creativity.  The MPAA will continue to use this proportionate measure to tackle sites overwhelmingly dedicated to facilitating and promoting online copyright infringement.”, the organization further added.

As the situation stands, the question is, how long will it take for Putlocker to be active again?
