Euro 2016 Marred by Piracy! UEFA Sends Notices to Illegal Streaming Sites
The fear has now become the harsh reality. The so called online pirates have not spared even the ongoing UEFA Euro 2016, one of the most popular sporting events of the year.
Although the UEFA authorities have taken every possible step to curb unauthorized access to live streaming websites, but it seems that the battle against piracy has already been lost. There are a large number of streaming websites that offer live streaming of Euro 2016 matches, and the practice of illegal live streaming is gaining momentum with the progress of the event.
The UEFA has already started sending anti-piracy notices to the so called illegal streaming websites, but all the efforts till now have gone in vain. Even Google, the search engine giant has not responded to UEFA’s request to take down pirate links that have continued to appear in search results.
The irony is that streaming apps like Periscope make it really easy for viewers to live stream the football action from anywhere in the world, without paying a single penny. Periscope also came under the scrutiny by UEFA earlier, for illegally streaming Euro Cup matches.
This is really a tough situation for UEFA authorities. The ongoing illegal streaming of football matches from France has also encouraged the so called torrent websites to attract tens of thousands of viewers on a given match day.
It is interesting to note that selected videos of ongoing matches are being shared regularly on various social media websites as well by the internet users.
As the situation stands, the UEFA is keeping a close eye on the so called pirates and is actively monitoring the social media and torrent websites.
