Stakeholders from around the world gather today, Tuesday, 6 February 2018, to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2018. The theme for this year, “Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you”, is a plea to every stakeholder to play their part in building a better internet for everyone, distinctively, the youngest users out there. On top of that, it is an invitation for everyone to come together and engage with each other in a respectful way in order to ensure a better digital experience.
Over the years, Safer Internet Day (SID) has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. It started off as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004, was taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has evolved past its traditional geographic zone and is now honored in approximately 130 countries globally.
From cyberbullying to social networking, each year Safer Internet Day strives to raise awareness of rising online issues and picks a topic exhibiting current concerns.
